Proper water chemistry is required to keep a swimming safe and clean. Follow these steps and any pool owner can maintain their own swimming pool with the same results as our professionals!
1. Invest in a water testing kit. They are inexpensive and can be purchased at either Backyard Masters locations. The test will test basic chemicals that you can use weekly. We also have a free computer analyzing station at the store.
2. If you maintain the chemicals in the water at the correct level and this will entail keeping the pH and chlorine at just the right levels, pool water will be much less irritating to your eyes and skin as well as prevent algae from growing. Chlorine is added to the water to prevent accumulation of organisms which casues sickness. Applying the chlorine incorrectly, will make its addition ineffective.
3. To properly add chlorine your place chlorine tablets into the distribution or filtering system. Also, you could use a floating feeder or automatic chlorinator.
4. Maintain the water's pH, or base or acidity levels. The pH should be maintained at 7.2-7.6/ If the pH is too acidic (greater than 7.6) pool coorosion can occur, and anything that is directly connected to it. You will have to lower your pH by using our chemical pH minus.
5. If your pH is too basic (pH less than 7.2), the growth of organisms will be encouraged in the water and you will need our chemical pH plus. pH levels should be checked weekly. The pH levels will be maintained if alkaline s ubstances are dissolved at a level of 80 - 150 ppm (parts per million). The lower the alkalinity, the lower the pH and vice versa.
6. Vacuum the pool weeklyt and remove all debris as soon as possible. Although the debris does not affect the water quality, it will clog the filter and debris can scratch liners.
